VAT guide

VAT can feel like a surprise bill. This guide explains what the planner does with VAT, in plain words.

Collected and paid VAT

VAT you charge your customers is called output VAT. VAT you pay your suppliers is input VAT. For each period, what you owe is output VAT minus input VAT.

How the planner treats VAT

Amounts are treated as VAT-inclusive. Tick Includes VAT on an entry and the planner works out the VAT part. With a 15% rate, an entry of 1,150 includes 150 of VAT. Salaries, government fees and taxes are not ticked by default.

Periods and due dates

Choose monthly or quarterly in Settings. The planner shows the due date as the last day of the month after the period ends. For example, the first quarter (January to March) shows 30 April. Confirm your filing period and deadlines with ZATCA, because they can differ by business.

Schedule the payment

On the VAT tab, press Schedule payment. The planner adds a planned payment on the due date, so your cash runway already includes it.

What this is not

The planner gives estimates. It does not file returns and it is not tax advice. Confirm the figures with your accountant before filing.
